OUR HISTORY

Hogar Abrazo de Amor is a non-profit institution located in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Since 2012, we have provided shelter services to girls and young woman between the ages of 13 and 17 who are under the protection of the Department of Family Affairs, with the purpose of offering them a safe and stable home. Our commitment is to provide not only a place to live, but also the opportunity to grow in an environment filled with love, respect, and dignity. At the heart of all we do lies the unwavering commitment to empowering new beginnings. Our Home is devoted to creating a nurting, home-like environment where young women receive not only health care services but also, social and psychological support that provide the essential tools to build independent, purposeful lives. Hogar Abrazo de Amor is committed to nurturing the self-esteem and identity of each young girl, helping them develop the confidence necessary to face their future safely and preparing them to reintegrate successfully into society as responsible and valuable citizens.

To develop an institution where we can address all the mental, emotional, educational, and social needs of families, children, and youth. To provide therapeutic services using evidence-based and trauma-informed practices.

Mission

Provide shelter and a safe environment for girls and young women who have experienced abuse, fostering their development so they can integrate into our society and achieve family unification.

Our Goals:

Carry out compliance with the laws and duties established by the Department of Family Affairs regarding Children's Rights and the moral obligation to defend those most in need.
May the young women who enters our Home find not only the safety and love she seeks, but also the sense of belonging they need to feel truly understood and fulfilled.
Cultivate free and self-reliant individuals who are prepared to take their rightful place in society, resist marginalization, and navigate life with confidence, integrity and purpose.
Empower young women to face their future as engaged citizens, capable of contributing to a more just and compassionate society, guided by love and deep understanding.
Strive to foster the development of identity and self-esteem in girls to independence, while nurturing authentic love and instilling a strong foundation of meaningful values.
Reestablish and strengthen the social and family bonds of each individual, paving the way for meaningful reintegration or advancement where they emerge as empowered individuals, fully exercising their rights, guided by values, and living in responsible freedom.
